Rate of Pay:           £10.90 per hour

Reporting to:        Lead Youth Worker and Youth Services Coordinator

Hours of work:     7 hours per week (0.18fte)

Post available until December 2023 in the first instance

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Children & Young People’s team at Zest in Upperthorpe.  This role will also cover other areas of Sheffield including Stocksbridge, Stannington and Hillsborough (Middlewood).

To support the delivery and development of youth services and activities for Zest which encourage, inspire and support the personal development of young people ages 11-18.

You will form part of a team of staff and volunteers to deliver weekly sessions to young people including workshops and activity sessions.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Purpose of Job

To support the delivery and development of youth services and activities for Zest which encourage, inspire and support the personal development of young people ages 11-18.

You will form part of a team of staff and volunteers to deliver weekly sessions to young people including workshops and activity sessions.

 

Responsibilities

  1. Support with planning, set up/putting away and facilitation of all weekly youth activities
  2. Initiate, develop and maintain positive relationships with young people in order to identify key issues relevant to them and provide appropriate information, advice and guidance.
  3. Encourage and support young people to be engaged in as many aspects of the provision as possible, challenge and motivate them, ensuring young people are aware of all sessions and support available.
  4. To assist with the organisation of workshops.
  5. Support with the recording, monitoring and evaluation of work with young people
  6. To promote youth activities and sessions to young people in the area.
  7. To work in ways which promote equality of opportunity, participation and responsibility
  8. To work with young people to safeguard their welfare and follow policies and procedures around safeguarding.
  9. To assist with the security of buildings, equipment and any monies collected in project sessions.
  10. To support with the liaison with other services, the lead youth worker and youth services coordinator where a young person may require additional and/or more specialist support, encouraging appropriate referrals of young people into relevant services.
  11. Ensure all incidents are reported as required.
  12. To part take in some weekend work and residential activities as required
  13. To participate in appropriate training activities including monthly team meetings
  14. Undertake any other responsibilities and duties of the post, as required by the lead youth worker/ youth services coordinator.
  15. To carry out all duties and responsibilities as described in line with Zest policies and procedures, with particular attention to those relating to Equal Opportunities and Health and Safety.

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications:

  • Qualification in Youth work or related field (desirable)

Experience/Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of the issues which affect young people especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Knowledge, understanding and experience of the Child Protection Procedures.
  • Experience of working with young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Abilities and Skills

  • Ability to contact, engage, inspire and motivate young people.
  • An ability to build positive, professional relationships with young people.
  • Ability to communicate well with young people, both in group and one to one settings.
  • Ability to support lead youth worker to organise workshops and develop sessions.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and be directed by lead youth worker.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and deal with situations as they arise.
